The vast dry plains, acacia woodland, marshes and rich swamplands of Amboseli National Park are home to large herds of elephants, wildebeest, zebra and impala and over 400 species of birds.

The Chyulu Hills are a volcanic mountain range situated between Amboseli and Tsavo West. This is a great place for horse riding and walking safaris, plus magnificent views across to Kilimanjaro.

Laikipia is a plateau district, straddling the equator north west of Mount Kenya. Lewa Wildife Conservancy is one of the gems of Laikipia.

Lake Victoria is the biggest freshwater lake in Africa and forms a natural boundary between Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. At over 67,000 sq kms, it is twice the size of Wales. Famously the source of the mighty River Nile in Uganda which takes the waters of Lake Victoria to the Mediterranean, Lake Victoria is known locally as Nyanza.

The archipelago of Lamu is on the beautiful northern coast of Kenya. Here you get some of the very best beaches and excellent accommodation.

Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is one of Kenya's great conservation success stories. A converted cattle ranch which is now home to the big 5 and a huge number of rhino. The landscape is stunning and there is amble opportunity to meet the local people too.

The Masai Mara National Reserve is probably one of the most famous wildlife regions in the world and provides the most diverse game viewing within Kenya.

Meru National Park is north east of Mount Kenya, and was made famous by George and Joy Adamson.

Mombasa is a busy harbour town, the coastline north and south has some long beaches and coral reefs and some lovely places to stay after your safari and relax.

Mount Kenya is the highest mountain in Kenya, and the second-highest in Africa (after Mount Kilimanjaro). It is just south of the equator, and protected in a national park.

The Rift Valley is a major geological feature splitting Africa from the Red Sea down to Mozambique. In Kenya a string of lakes form a line north to south down this amazing valley and the classic 'rift valley' landscapes are accesible in Kenya more so than in other parts of Africa - this is classic Africa with dramatic rocky outcrops and misty hills, flat valley floors dotted with acacia trees and thorny bushes.

North of Mt Kenya and Isiolo, these reserves and parks offer the chance to experience the dry, arid thornbush lands that support unusual species such as Grevy's Zebra, Gerenuk, Beisa Oryx and Somali Ostrich. The Samburu people are incredible guides and this region offers a fascinating insight to their culture.

Shimba Hills National Reserve is less than 50kms from Kenya's coast. It combines perfectly with a beach holiday to give some idea of the landscape and wildlife of the country.

The National Parks of Tsavo East and West combine to form one of the biggest reserves in Africa, covering an area of 10 million acres.
